St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day or the Feast of Saint Patrick is a cultural holiday celebrated on March 17th every year. He is the patron saint of Ireland. There are many traditions like wearing the colors green, white, and orange, wearing clothing with Irish symbol a shamrock and attending the annual parade in New York City. The parade includes marching bands, Irish step dancing, and other festive celebrations. Specific foods are eaten on this day such as corned beef and cabbage, and Irish soda bread. Ireland's flag has three colors: green, white, and orange. Green represents the older Gaelic tradition. White signifies a truce between the orange and the green. Orange represents the supporters of William of Orange, a prince. The story behind the lucky shamrock is that it is a symbol of friendship and the Holy Trinity.

  1. Good entry on St. Patrick's Day! One issue that might come up is that non-Christians might not know what a saint/patron saint is.

I like the idea of having the students insert commas. If they were doing it online, they could do it in an app or on a website.
