My Furry Friend

Image
Dogs are one of my favorite animals ! A huge part of my family and household is my pet dog, Fitch. He is a small sized dog and weighs about twenty pounds, his fur is a light beige coloring and it is very soft. Fitch is a "Schnoodle" which is a mixture of two dogs, a schnauzer, and a poodle. The minute I walk through the door Fitch comes running to my feet to greet me as he wags his tail quickly . My family and I got him when he was a puppy and I was just 9 years old. He has been a part of my family ever since and grew up with me. I love lazy days with him when we just lay on the couch. Sometimes we are more active, especially when the weather is nice we always go for walks in the neighborhood . In the summertime, I take him to the beach and he likes to play in the sand. Dogs are great pets, they are friendly, cuddly and always there to greet you in the window of your home !  Vocabulary: animal- a living creature such as a dog household- a house where you li

An Adventure at Breakneck Mountain

Image
My last semester of senior year in college , my friends and I had a crazy idea to hike Breakneck Mountain to watch the sunrise . I did not know if I could mentally prepare myself for this adventure and physically make it to the top of the mountain in time. After much thinking, I decided I was going to join my friends and embark on the journey up Breakneck Mountain. Knowing it would be no easy task I was excited and nervous all at once. We set our alarms for 3 am and got our flashlights out since it would be pitch black the entire way up. Off went our alarms and out of bed we jumped, we drove to the mountainside and had to park our cars on the side of a narrow, curvy road. Following one another in a single filed line with our flashlights shining bright, the hike up had begun. The girls seemed nervous while the boys acted tough. The climb was a steep challenge , there were small uneven pieces of rock where you could rest one foot and your hands to pull yourself up to the next he

St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day or the Feast of Saint Patrick is a cultural holiday celebrated on March 17th every year. He is the patron saint of Ireland. There are many traditions like wearing the colors green, white, and orange, wearing clothing with Irish symbol a shamrock and attending the annual  parade in New York City. The parade includes marching bands, Irish step dancing, and other festive celebrations. Specific foods are eaten on this day such as corned beef and cabbage, and Irish soda bread. Ireland's flag has three colors: green, white, and orange. Green represents the older Gaelic tradition. White signifies a truce between the orange and the green. Orange represents the supporters of William of Orange, a prince. The story behind the lucky shamrock is that it is a symbol of  friendship  and the Holy Trinity.   Vocabulary: holiday- a day of celebration traditions- a belief or event that has been passed down through family  annual- when something happen

Music To My Ears

Image
Listening to music is one of my favorite things to do, it often relaxes me. I usually choose a specific genre that fits with my mood at the time   when I am listening. I enjoy pop, country, and hip-hop music the best. Music is known to help with many things such as stress, sleep, ones state of mind , depression, and memory. Personally, I enjoy listening to music the most when I'm driving in my car. No, I am not the greatest singer like Adele or Alicia Keys, but I like to think I am! It frees my mind and allows me to think about nothing but the lyrics being sung. You could say this is my "me time." I try to go to as many  concerts  as possible when I get the opportunity because the experience is amazing. One of my absolute favorite concert venues is the Jones Beach Theatre in the summertime. It overlooks the beach which is my happy place. Live music is phenomenal! If you feel stressed or think you need to free your thoughts, try listening to some tunes.  Vo
